Filevine File Sync
Trellys keeps your Filevine documents in sync with Google Drive, SharePoint or Dropbox, both ways. A new file your staff save into a case's folder in storage is added to that case in Filevine. An edit saved in storage becomes a new version of the same Filevine document. A document added in Filevine appears in the case's folder in storage. Filevine stays the record, and your staff work wherever they already do.
Filevine is the record
Every change made in Filevine reaches your storage. Every change your team makes in your storage comes back to Filevine, except deletes. Filevine always keeps the full record.
- Deleting a file or folder in your storage never removes anything from Filevine.
- A case folder renamed in your storage takes its Filevine name back.
- A document deleted in Filevine is removed from your storage, unless someone changed it there first.

One folder for every case
Each case gets its own folder, named with the Filevine project number and name, such as "2303 - Smith v. Jones". Filevine's own folders are mirrored inside it. A document filed under Medical Records in Filevine sits under Medical Records in storage.
Your firm decides which cases sync. Tag a case #sync in Filevine to add it, or sync every active case. Documents already in a case are copied over when it is added.
When both sides change
Sometimes a document changes in Filevine and in storage before the two meet. Filevine's version wins. The storage edit is kept beside the original under a new name. The Filevine document is tagged #sync-conflict, so your team can see what happened and merge the edit by hand.
When something is deleted in storage
A delete in Google Drive, SharePoint or Dropbox never removes anything from Filevine. By default Trellys puts the file back from Filevine. If your firm prefers, a deleted file can stay deleted and stop syncing. You choose this in Settings.
What file types sync
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, text, email (.msg and .eml) and image files sync for every firm. Audio and video can be turned on. Archives, disc images, programs and mailbox files never sync, so a radiology disc dropped in a folder does not flood a case.

Questions
Does Filevine sync work both ways? Yes. Changes in Filevine go to storage, and new files and edits in storage come back to Filevine. A firm can also choose one-way, Filevine to storage only.
Do edits made in storage become new documents in Filevine? No. An edit is saved as a new version of the same Filevine document, so the case keeps one document with its history.
What happens if the same document is edited in both places? Filevine's version is kept as the document. The other edit is saved beside it under a new name, and the Filevine document is tagged so your team can review it.
Does every case sync?
Only the cases your firm chooses. Tag a case #sync in Filevine, or sync all active cases.
Can deleting a file in storage delete it in Filevine? No. Trellys never deletes from Filevine. A file deleted in storage is put back by default.
Does sync store our documents somewhere else? No. Sync passes each document straight between Filevine and your storage.
