Filevine Google Drive Sync
Trellys syncs your Filevine documents with a Google Shared Drive, both ways. Every case you choose gets a folder in the Shared Drive. Documents added in Filevine appear there. Files your staff add or change in Drive return to the same case in Filevine.
Filevine is the record
Every change made in Filevine reaches Google Drive. Every change your team makes in Google Drive comes back to Filevine, except deletes. Filevine always keeps the full record.
- Deleting a file or folder in Google Drive never removes anything from Filevine.
- A case folder renamed in Google Drive takes its Filevine name back.
- A document deleted in Filevine is removed from Google Drive, unless someone changed it there first.
Built for Google Workspace firms
Firms that run on Google Workspace keep their working files in Drive. Filevine Google Drive sync puts each case's documents in a Shared Drive your firm owns, so staff work in Drive without downloading or re-uploading.
Trellys works with Shared Drives, not personal My Drive folders. A Shared Drive belongs to the firm rather than one person, so case folders stay put when people come and go.
What moves in each direction
| Change | Filevine to Google Drive | Google Drive to Filevine |
|---|---|---|
| New document | Copied into the case's folder | Added to the case, in the matching folder |
| Edited document | The Drive copy is updated | Saved as a new version of the same document |
| Renamed or moved document | Renamed or moved to match | Renamed or moved to match |
| Case renamed in Filevine | The case folder is renamed | |
| Deleted document | Removed from Drive if no one has changed it there | Never deleted in Filevine |
Trellys checks the Shared Drive for changes on a regular schedule. A change made in Drive reaches Filevine shortly after, not the instant it is saved.
Folders that match Filevine
Each case's folder is named with its Filevine project number and name, such as "2303 - Smith v. Jones". The folders inside follow Filevine's own folders. Someone who knows where a document lives in Filevine finds it in the same place in Drive.
When both sides change, or a file is deleted
If one document changes in Filevine and in Drive before the two meet, Filevine's version wins. The Drive edit is kept beside it under a new name, and the Filevine document is tagged #sync-conflict.
A file deleted in Drive is never deleted in Filevine. By default Trellys puts it back from Filevine. Your firm can choose to let deletes stand instead.
Setting it up
A firm administrator connects the Shared Drive and chooses where case folders go. The firm then chooses which cases sync: cases tagged #sync in Filevine, or every active case. Documents already in those cases are copied into Drive.
